University of the People sells degrees across Africa and Asia but, unfortunately, many individuals in these regions are unaware that UoPeople degrees are not accredited there. Only a handful of prestigious universities worldwide hold multiple international accreditations, allowing them to issue degrees recognized in more than one country. This is not the case for the tiny University of the People, which is based in Israel (despite claiming to be in the US). To clarify, UoPeople is not accredited in Europe, Africa, Asia, or Oceania.
Remarkably, the Israeli University of the People is not even accredited in Israel, because this organization deliberately avoids disclosing its true location so that people do not know they are sending money to Israel. For verification, refer to the official map (in Hebrew).
Initially, UoPeople lacked any accreditation: it was just some basic website cranking out pieces of paper that said "degree" on them. It then purchased national accreditation from DEAC (formerly DETC) and later bought another regional accreditation from WASC. However, none of this grants international accreditation. Although the University of the People bought its WASC accreditation to pretend it is not a diploma mill, WASC accreditation provides no international legal guarantee of recognition, as every university receiving an enrollment application independently evaluates the credibility of the applicant's degree. And, in the case of the University of the People, that credibility is minimal, regardless of its accreditation status. That being said, universities desperate for enrollments (and money) will turn a blind eye and accept a UoPeople degree, whereas more reputable universities that evaluate the student's preparation and curriculum will reject it.
Some top universities say "yes, we might accept a degree from the University of the People, feel free to apply" but then, when they see the worthless piece of paper obtained through sophia.org, they immediately throw it away. This happens even with universities that actually had a partnership with the University of the People! They have no qualms about ignoring the hypothetical partnership, and in our view they are right to do so, as it is essential to maintain academic integrity rather than selling out to online scammers.
During these accreditation cycles (self-accreditation, DEAC/DETC, WASC) UoPeople's reputation stayed exactly the same: an obscure Israeli degree mill staffed by exploited workers across India and Africa. When the University of the People claims "But we're not idiots, because we're accredited", you can hit back with "Precisely, you're an accredited idiot".
There are four major accrediting bodies for MBA programs: the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB, primarily American), the Association of MBAs (AMBA, primarily British), the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP, primarily American), and the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS, primarily European). The most reputable MBA programs are accredited by one or more of these organizations.
Since UoPeople.edu lacks accreditation from any of them, its so-called "MBA" is nothing more than a meaningless piece of paper—one that you could print yourself without spending thousands of dollars at the Israeli diploma mill, University of the People Education Ltd. Once again, UoPeople falsely claims that its MBA is fully accredited, which is simply untrue, making the entire program a blatant scam. An MBA from the University of the People is not legitimate.
UoPeople also argues that all other MBAs are "too expensive", while promoting its own as an affordable revolution in education. However, a degree from a legitimate business school, accredited by a recognized business accrediting body, results in a respectable, fully accredited MBA. Running a genuine business school, as opposed to a small offshore virtual diploma mill, requires significant resources, which explains why real MBA programs come with a higher price tag.

From the New Oxford American Dictionary:
Diploma mill (noun): an institution or organization that grants large numbers of educational degrees based on inadequate or inferior education and assessment of the recipients.
As can be seen, according to the Oxford American Dictionary, the University of the People meets all the requirements to be fully considered a diploma mill. Therefore, don't buy into the argument that "UoPeople isn't a diploma mill because it's accredited". Fact is, it's simply an accredited diploma mill.
